An assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and have completed my fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. I am Medical Director of the Obstetric Infectious Disease clinic at Parkland Hospital, and oversee operations and clinical protocol development as well as research endeavors within this clinic. I work closely with leadership at Parkland Hospital and the Dallas County Health Department to coordinate infectious disease surveillance efforts in pregnant women for sexually transmitted infections such as HIV and syphilis, as well as for emerging pathogens such as zika, measles, and ebola viruses. I currently devote 50% of my time to clinical research, and have dedicated my career to optimizing public health outcomes in disadvantaged populations. I work to address specific areas of need in maternal health outcomes research by studying infectious diseases that disproportionately affect disadvantaged populations, conducting research aimed at lowering the rate of primary cesarean deliveries, and investigating maternal and neonatal affects of opioid addiction in pregnancy.
