Jess Whitson
Jess Thomas Whitson, MD, FACS, is Professor of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He serves as Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship and is a member of several committees there including the Ophthalmology Clinical Competence Committee and Program Evaluation Committee. He has also served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Whitson received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Johns Hopkins University. He completed his medical internship and ophthalmology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center and his glaucoma fellowship at Emory University. He has also completed graduate studies in public health practice at Johns Hopkins, finance at SMU, and entrepreneurial management in life sciences at Rice University.
Dr. Whitson is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He has received a Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is listed in Woodward-White’s Best Doctors in America, Texas Monthly’s Super Doctors, and in the Consumers’ Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists. He was recently recognized as a distinguished alumnus from the UT Southwestern Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology. He serves as a reviewer for several professional journals and has authored over 90 publications. He is a member of the American Glaucoma Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Eye Study Club, and is a past president of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology.
