Patricia Pichilingue-Reto, MD
I am originally from Peru, I went to Medical school at Cayetano Heredia University which is one of the medical schools in my country with the most important contributions on the investigational medical field. In order to graduate, we needed to finalize a research project. As such, one of my first original publications was “Surgical complications in pediatric patients with hydrocephalus”; this was a retrospective study performed at a tertiary medical center in Lima, Peru. I have had the opportunity to be a collaborator on research studies done at one of the hospitals located at the highest endemic area for tuberculosis in my hometown. I have been part of reviews of cases about pleural tuberculosis and hepatic toxicity due to anti-tuberculosis therapy, with a focus on the pediatric population. I finished Pediatrics Residency in New Jersey and now I am finishing Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Dallas, Texas. Being a fellow at one of the best children’s hospitals of the nation, has given me the opportunity to be part of the management of many pediatric patients with multiple comorbidities. I have been involved in the care of immunocompromised pediatric patients due to cancer treatment, bone marrow or solid organ transplantation.
