41st Annual Brandon Carrell Visiting Professorship (JS1904C)

This one and one-half day course will focus on state of the art treatment protocols at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) and current research conducted by the residents, fellows and staff physicians at TSRHC. The program will utilize case presentations and questions/answer format in addition to PowerPoint presentations. Faculty are also invited from across the country to share their research and practice protocols. Ample time will be allowed for discussion between audience and the faculty.

Target Audience

This course is designed for pediatric orthopaedeic surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons with an interest in pediatric orthopedics. In addition, other healthcare providers are invited to attend but are reminded that the content will focus on pediatric orthopaedics.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and discuss the pathophysiology and treatment of talipes equinovarus in children.
  • Identify and discuss the pathophysiology and treatment of pediatric hip dysplasia, specifically regarding choice between closed vs. open reduction of dislocated hips.
  • Examine the available tools, strategies, and data available to orthopedic surgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis.
  • Evaluate the variety of methods for assessing skeletal maturity in children undergoing treatment for orthopedic conditions.
  • Analyze results of completed and ongoing research projects specifically pediatric orthopedic care
  • Illustrate and interpret treatment strategies for various orthopedic conditions through the presentation of unusual or unique cases
