PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATIONS
1. Adams GL, Hilger PA, Warwick WJ: Cystic fibrosis.
Archives of Otolaryngology, 1980; 106(2):127-32.
I was a resident and worked with Drs. Adams and Warwick. I did the majority of the manuscript preparation and literature review. The fundamental care of patients and concepts were established by Drs. Adams and Warwick.
2. Hilger PA, Webster RW, Brown CA, Smith RC: Comparison between short and long term results in face lifts. Aesthetic Reconstructive Facial Plastic Surgery, 1981; 5:1-98.
I was involved in this while I was a fellow. Dr. Webster was the preceptor in discussing patient care. We discussed the approach. Dr. Brown and I did the chart reviews, prepared the manuscript, and did a subjective analysis.
3. Wolfensberger M, Hilger PA, Hilger JA: Conchal bowl and postauricular flaps for reconstruction of the external auditory canal. Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1983; 91(4):404-6.
This was written primarily by Dr. Wolfensberger, but the basic concept was one that I developed for a surgical technique. Dr. Wolfensberger was the resident and did the literature review.
4. Maisel RH, Hilger PA, Adams GL, Giordano AM: Reconstruction of the mandible. Laryngoscope, 1983; 93(9):1122-6.

5. Hilger PA, Webster RC, Hilger JA, Smith RC: A computerized nasal analysis system. Archives of Otolaryngology, 1983; 109(10):653-61.
I wrote this as a fellow. The basic concept and methodologies were ones that I developed. We did the study using a number of Dr. Webster’s patients. I did all the analysis and prepared the manuscript, while Dr. Webster and Mr. Smith then reviewed the paper.
6. Hilger PA, Adams GL: Mandibular reconstruction with the A-O plate. Archives of Otolaryngology, 1985; 111(7):469-71.
This was based on work that was initiated when I was a resident. I carried out the first case with Dr. Boies and did extensive reconstruction over the following years as a resident and a faculty member. I reconstructed with Dr. Adams a number of his patients. I wrote the entire manuscript and Dr. Adams reviewed it and provided additional thoughts.

This is a review of a new technique that had been used in Europe for nearly a decade, but was new to our country. This was based on a presentation that we made at a national meeting in which it was the first report in the American literature. I was involved in the majority of patients treated, wrote the first draft, and did the literature review. Dr. Boies was the senior faculty member who provided oversight and actually brought the instruments back from Europe.
2.Hilger PA, Szachowicz EH. A Simple Dressing for Common Dental Injuries in Jacobs JR (ed.), Maxillofacial Trauma, Praeger Press, New York, p. 262-8, 1983.
This was written by Dr. Szachowicz and me early in his practice in the department. Dr. Szachowicz and I were equally responsible for the chapter. We each provided patients. He wrote the first draft after we had jointly outlined it. I then provided additional editing.
3. Hilger PA. Complications of Dental and Mandibular Fractures in English GM (ed.), Otolaryngology, Harper & Row, Philadelphia, p. 1-23, 1983.

This was written by Dr. Blakley when he was a resident. The technique was written in the literature many years before. We added a variation to it that I had developed. The patients were all cared for by me as a staff person with input from the residents, particularly Dr. Blakley. Dr. Blakley wrote the first draft after I had outlined the principles. I then edited it.
