Laura Huete, MD, MBA, FACMQ, CMQ

Laura Huete currently serves as Senior Medical Director of WellMed Medical Group. Her leadership experience includes patient safety, process improvement, physician and staff engagement. managed care, and clinical operations. She currently leads Clinic Operations 360-a multidisciplinary team with responsibility over four initiatives: Creating a Healthier Organization, Patient Experience, Patient Centered Medical Home, and Clinical Health and Safety. Prior to her current role, she has co-led a successful implementation of an enterprise EMR, served on an enterprise clinical quality team, led initiatives to reduce unnecessary admissions, and supported contracted physicians in San Antonio. In 2017, with her as physician champion, WellMed earned The Joint Commission Accreditation for Ambulatory Care and Primary Care Medical Home Certification.
Dr. Huete is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Association for Physician Leadership. She earned her Certification in Medical Quality in 2013 and was elected Fellow, American College of Medical Quality in March 2017. Dr. Huete currently serves as a Board Member of the Health Cell in San Antonio.
Dr. Huete graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. She earned her Medical Degree from The University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. She completed her residency and achieved Chief Resident status at the Corpus Christi Family Medicine Residency Program in Corpus Christi, Texas. She earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in May 2016.
