Robin Brey, Professor and Chair
Dr. Robin L. Brey is Professor, Chair, and holder of the Edna Dielmann Smith Distinguished University Chair of the Department of Neurology at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Brey is a longtime faculty member of UT Health San Antonio who is known for studies of the relationship between stroke and a set of proteins called antiphospholipid antibodies, an immune-mediated coagulopathy. She has also helped document the neuropsychiatric manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a chronic autoimmune condition that affects many organ systems, including the brain. Dr. Brey has an active clinical practice focusing on caring for patients in the hospital and outpatient settings. She actively serves her profession in a variety of ways. She was a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Board of Directors from 2003-2007 and was editor-in-chief of Neurology Now, an award-winning AAN publication for neurology patients, their families and the lay public. Dr. Brey was the recipient of the Association of Medical Colleges award for Humanism in Medicine in 2004. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Texas-wide consortium, Lone Star Stroke, serves as the President of the American University Professors of Neurology, and is a member of the AAN Chairs of Neurology Work Group.
