Francesco Montorsi is Professor of Urology and Chairman of the Department of Urology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. In the year 2015 Prof. Montorsi was appointed as Adjunct Secretary General – Science by the European Association of Urology. He received his medical degree from the University of Milan School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in Urology. In addition, Prof. Montorsi completed a residency in Andrology at the University of Pisa School of Medicine. Prof. Montorsi’s major research interests have included several urological areas with a specific focus on pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, urologic oncology, benign prostatic hyperplasia and sexual dysfunctions. As a widely published author, Prof. Montorsi has written and coauthored 1247 peer reviewed journal articles according to PubMed and several book chapters. At present Prof. Montorsi’s H-Index is 125 according to Google Scholar. His most recent contributions to the literature have been on the management of urological malignancies, sexual dysfunctions and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Prof. Montorsi’s articles have been published in many prestigious journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, The Journal of Clinical Oncology and European Urology. He is a reviewer for many prestigious journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, The Lancet Oncology, JAMA and European Urology. Between January 2006 and December 2013 Prof. Montorsi served as Editor-in-Chief of European Urology (2017 impact factor: 17.581), the official Journal of the European Association of Urology. Between 2013 and 2016 Prof. Montorsi served as the Scientific Director of the San Raffaele Hospital and the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy.
In 1998 Prof. Montorsi has received the Matula Award, assigned yearly by the European Association of Urology to the Urologist younger than 40 years of age with the best scientific production. In 2018 Prof. Montorsi has received the Hugh Hampton Young Award, assigned yearly by the American Urological Association for outstanding contributions to the study of genitourinary tract diseases. Prof. Montorsi is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In the year 2018 Prof. Montorsi has been included in the Highly Cited Researchers list produced by Clarivate Analytics, which includes researchers who produced multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in the field and year in Web of Science. In the year 2019 Prof. Montorsi has received the Frans Debruyne Lifetime Achievement Award assigned by the European Association of Urology for a longstanding and important contribution to the activities and development of the association.
