Obianuju Berry
Dr. Obianuju "Uju" Berry is a current child/adolescent, adult, and reproductive psychiatrist at Columbia University Medical Center where she practices clinically and is also a researcher in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Medical School and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Berry has extensive experience in mental health research and public policy having worked in both the State and Federal level. She has served as a community advisor to the late Senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota, as a research fellow for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Surgeon General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Berry consults to various organizations, including the National Institute of Domestic Violence in the African American Community and the Alliance for Hope. She has several first author peer reviewed articles and has given numerous national presentations on intimate partner violence and mental health. Dr. Berry’s research and clinical interests include child/adolescent mental health, women’s health, epidemiology, trauma, intimate partner violence, service implementation and collaborative care, and working with minority and immigrant populations. She is currently evaluating the effects and treatment of intimate partner violence on early childhood attachment and families as well as leading a city-wide program evaluation on the collaboration between psychiatry and Family Justice Centers with New York City’s Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence.
