Salvatore LoCoco, MD, MBA, FACOG, FACS
Salvatore LoCoco, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in performing robotic surgery for gynecologic malignancies.
Dr. LoCoco earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and received advanced training in gynecologic oncology through a fellowship at the University of Toronto and McMaster University.
Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018.
Dr. LoCoco was an early adopter of robotic surgery technology and has been a leader in the field since 2007. He started the first non-urological robotic surgery program in North Texas while at John Peter Smith Hospital.
Prior to joining UT Southwestern, he was Academic Chair for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois. He was also Co-Director of an active, multidisciplinary tertiary referral center for robotic minimally invasive surgery.
He has served on the Illinois State Advisory Committee for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In 2017, he earned the Faculty Teaching Award from the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. After reaching a 2,000-case milestone, Dr. LoCoco was recognized in 2016 with a Distinguished Robotic Surgeon Award.
He has been actively involved in postgraduate resident robotic surgical education for the past 11 years and has served as a national proctor and preceptor to help retrain established surgeons throughout the U.S. in gynecologic oncology and benign gynecology procedures.
He has delivered several national and international presentations related to robotic-assisted radical pelvic and abdominal surgery, and he has published several academic articles.
