Larry Allen, Professor of Medicine, MD, MHS
Dr. Larry Allen does research at the University of Colorado with the Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions. He works to improve our ability to anticipate progression into end-stage heart failure and then help patients make tough choices regarding invasive therapies and palliative options. Dr. Allen lead the PCORI-funded multicenter trial of decision support for patients and their caregivers offered a left ventricular assist device (the DECIDE-LVAD trial) which is now being implemented across the country (I DECIDE LVAD), and is currently leading an American Heart Association Network Award investigating tools to increase patient engagement in medication prescribing (the EPIC-HF trial). Meanwhile, Dr. Allen keeps himself clinically grounded as the Associate Head for Clinical Affairs in Cardiology and regularly seeing patients with heart failure, LVADs, and transplants. He is consistently voted as one of Denver’s “Top Doctors” in 5280 Magazine.
