John Collyer, BA

John Collyer, BA is currently a fourth-year medical student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine (UTHSC COM) in Memphis, TN. He completed his undergraduate education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where he majored in mathematics and minored in chemistry and English/literature. At Vanderbilt, his research focused on developing computer macros to computationally analyze astrocyte morphology in optic nerves harvested from a mouse model of glaucoma. Now at UTHSC COM, John has worked on a project identifying novel candidate genes associated with left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy in the department of Pediatric Cardiology and is becoming more and more interested in the genetics of pediatric neurological diseases and neuromuscular medicine. With these passions in mind, he plans to specialize in pediatric neurology.
