Romaine Johnson, MD, MPH
Dr. Johnson serves as Director of the Children's Health Airway Management Program. He is currently the Director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Program at Children's Medical Center Dallas.His clinical interests include all aspects of the pediatric airway, focusing on subglottic stenosis, vocal cord paralysis, and childhood feeding disorders.
Dr. Johnson earned his medical degree at the Drexel University School of Medicine (formerly MCP Hahnemann). He completed an otolaryngology residency at the Baylor College of Medicine and a pediatric fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical. Dr. Johnson also received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
He was board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery; he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2006.
Dr. Johnson's research interests include subglottic stenosis, obstructive sleep apnea, vocal cord paralysis, quality improvement, and airway simulation.
He has authored nearly 80 scientific articles, book chapters, and meeting proceedings. He has delivered numerous national presentations, lectures, and professional courses. He serves as the Associate Editor of Pediatric Otolaryngology from 2017-2022 for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He will be the Editor in Chief of Laryngoscope Investive Otolaryngology starting in 2022.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Laryngological, Rhinological, and Otological Society (aka The Triological Society); the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery; and the American College of Surgeons; as well as an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, and the National Medical Association.
Dr. Johnson was included in D Magazine's Best Doctors list for 2015-2021. He received the Honor Award in 2012 from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Foundation. He is also a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Dr. Johnson sees children's health patients℠ in both the Dallas and Plano campuses. He has hospital appointments at Zale Lipshy University Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.
