Leonora Stephens, M.D., Board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, UT Southwestern
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I received my undergraduate degree from Yale College, after which I went to medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas, graduating in 1978. I completed a residency in psychiatry at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I returned to Dallas to open a private practice in psychiatry, to continue my teaching interests at UT Southwestern, and to raise a family. While I have been active in community psychiatry, primarily at the school based clinics at DISD, and engaged in the support of the community of psychiatrists and the mentally ill (I was president of the North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, 2015-2017), my primary focus and love is psychotherapy, combining a systems perspective with depth psychological perspectives. I believe that a person can only be fully understood by evaluating multiple levels and perspectives, including the biological, social, familial and intrapsychic.
