Brian Lee, Transplant Nephrologist, Clinical Professor of Medicine

I serve as the attending nephrologist on the Kidney Transplant Unit inpatient service at Parnassus managing the peri-operative care of kidney and pancreatic transplant patients, biopsy and interpretation of results with subsequent treatment for those with renal dysfunction following transplant, consultative service to those with renal dysfunction following non-renal solid organ transplantation.
As the medical director of the living kidney donor program for the evaluation of workup leading up to donor nephrectomy/hepatectomy, establishing protocols for the selection of appropriate donors, adjudication of living donor medical issues and communication with the multi-disciplinary transplant team.
I had previously served as the director of the Kidney Transplant Outreach Program, participating in the evaluation of potential kidney transplant recipients at various outreach locations throughout the Northern California area (Walnut Creek, Modesto, Monterey, Fresno, Hawaii) and to oversee the process of wait-listing recipients for transplantation. I was also responsible for the coordination of marketing efforts/message to increase UCSF Kidney Transplant Program's visibility within the local nephrology community.
On the outpatient side, I provide consultation on patients from other transplant services (heart, lung, liver) who present with renal dysfunction, either with or without concomitant kidney transplant. To round off the spectrum of my clinical duties, I am responsible for determining patients' medical candidacy for deceased donor kidney transplant waitlisting, and providing comprehensive follow-up after kidney transplantation surgery.
