Mujeeb Basit, MD, MMSc

Dr. Basit is a cardiologist, computer scientist and informatics researcher who uses mixed-method approaches to improve medical processes and reduce errors. His research focuses on machine learning based decision support systems, automated error detection in clinical support system and process improvement through user interaction mining with predictive analytics. He leads numerous committees focusing on advanced learning systems, consistent process definitions and sequencing analytics. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, Dr. Basit has worked for human genome project and the Dallas Heart Study. He completed his medical training at George Washington and most recently his clinical informatics fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He has been the Associate Chief Informatics Officer at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine with specialization in Cardiology since 2016 where he has lead efforts in artificial intelligence, complex clinical decision support, and automated anomaly detection amongst many other projects. He is passionate about education with multiple courses taught and presentations given at the local, national and international levels.
