Anita Deswal, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Deswal is the Ting Tsung and Wei Fung Chao Distinguished Chair and Professor of Medicine and the Chair of the Department of Cardiology at University of Texas T MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). She recently joined MDACC after being on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine and the VA Medical Center, Houston, TX, for ~ 20 years. She was Professor of Medicine at Baylor and Chief of Cardiology at the VA. Dr. Deswal is Board certified in cardiology, advanced heart failure and transplant, and echocardiography. Dr. Deswal has been a successful clinician cardiologist with interests in heart failure and echocardiography, a clinical and outcomes researcher in heart failure, and a recognized educator. She has co-authored over 140 manuscripts and several book chapters, has received grant funding from the VA and the NIH, and was recipient of the highest teaching and clinical awards at Baylor College of Medicine. She has been very active in the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). Some of the notable activities include serving as Chair of the Heart Failure and Transplantation Committee of the AHA, serving as a member of the ACC/AHA Cardiovascular Guidelines Taskforce, and the Topic Coordinator for Heart Failure for the annual scientific sessions of the ACC.
