I have >25 years of teaching experience at UTSW. I serve as course director for Nutrition Care Process Practica and Chronic Care Practica. course topics include the nutrition care process, prevention/wellness, cardiac risk factors, and application of mobile health technology (e.g. smartphone) to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, analysis of dietary intake, weight loss/management, and counseling effectiveness.
I have >15 years of clinical experience in cardiology. I am a practicing clinical providing medical nutrition therapy each week to patients in the Program of Preventive Cardiology (UTSW) and Cardiac Rehab (Texas Health Resources).
I recently completed a 3-year research project which included development and implementation of a curriculum to teach graduate students how to instruct patients on the use of mobile health technology. I am currently evaluating curriculum I developed for first year medical students on the recommended dietary patterns to reduce cardiac risk.
