Pavan Bhatraju, MD. MSc

I'm an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Washington. My clinical time is spent in the Harborview Medical Intensive Care Unit. My research is focused on understanding the epidemiology and pathophysiology of organ dysfunction (such as acute kidney injury, respiratory failure and shock) in critically ill patients. To accomplish these interests, we are actively enrolling multiple prospective patient cohorts, collecting biological specimens and adjudicating short and long-term clinical outcomes. We use advanced epidemiologic techniques to interpret the association of molecular measurements (genotyping, biomarkers, gene expression) with clinical outcomes.
Seattle was one of the first places in the US to see community transmission of COVID-19. We had our first case of COVID-19 February 24th with our first death February 26th. Since we have seen our numbers of patients require ICU care exponentially increase. This talk will describe our experience caring for critically ill patients with COVID-19 in the Seattle-area.
