CME Certificates will be available online after completion of the evaluation. You will receive an email with the direct evaluation link upon confirmation of your successful completion of the activity. Confirmation of successful completion is provided to the CME Office by the Office of Institutional Compliance.

The AMA, in conjunction with CMS, as part of the “Patients over Paperwork” initiative will implement a significant change to certain CPT codes. The new method of determining the level of Evaluation & Management (E/M) service will require major changes to physician behavior and documentation. Providers will need detailed instructions, system changes, and practice using the new E/M codes. This self-directed, online educational activity will provide physicians with the knowledge necessary to successfully complete the new documentation requirements for Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement. It is expected that the changes will reduce the time and complexity of documentation.

Learning Objectives

• State the necessity of the deletion of code 99201 and revision of codes 99202–99215

• Identify codes for Established Patient ofce visits {99212, 99213, 99214, 99215}. • Describe how Code level selection should be based on: Medical decision-making (MDM) or total time on the date of the encounter.

• Describe the creation of a 15-minute prolonged service code and the requirement of how this is to be reported only when the visit is based on time and after the total time of the highest-level service (e.g., 99205, 99215) has been exceeded.
