Dr. Pershern’s primary clinical activity is directing the consult-liaison service at Parkland Hospital where she supervises residents and medical students in providing psychiatric consultation services for the 900 bed community hospital. Her academic interest spans both medical student and resident education, serving as the Brain and Behavior course co-director, and as an associate program director for the psychiatry residency program. Her primary area of interest and expertise in undergraduate medical education has focused on innovative active learning strategies with a focus on Team-Based Learning (TBL). She is a certified TBL trainer-consultant and has trained individuals both nationally and internationally in this methodology. She coordinates the integration of Team Based Learning activities throughout the medical school curriculum at UTSW.
