Franz Greil, MD, PhD

Dr. Gerald Greil studied medicine in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Sweden. He received his medical training in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric ICU and Neonatology in Germany and did a Senior Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac MRI in the United States from 1999 to 2001 (Boston Children’s Hospital). After working in Pediatric Cardiology/Pediatric Cardiac MRI in Tuebingen/Germany from 2001 to 2006 Dr. Greil joined King’s College London/Guy’s & St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2006. From 2006 to 2015 Dr. Greil was a Consultant at Evelina Children’s Hospital (Guy’s & St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust) in London, UK and was Clinical Lead of the Congenital Cardiac MRI Imaging Service. He also had an appointment as a clinical academic at King’s College London, which he maintained when moving to the USA. In February 2015 Dr. Greil was appointed as Division Chief of the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas/Children’s Health, Dallas, TX, USA. He also holds the Pogue Family Distinguished Chair in Pediatric Cardiology. His research in diagnostic and interventional cardiac MRI and CT in patients with acquired and congenital heart disease is based on international collaborations in North America, Europe and Asia. He has published more than 100 original articles, book chapters and clinical guidelines.
