Kim Hoggatt Krumwiede, PhD
Kim Hoggatt Krumwiede earned bachelor’s degrees from both Saint Olaf College in Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She earned her master’s degree in biomedical communications-medical illustration from UT Southwestern Medical Center and her Ph.D. in learning technologies from the University of North Texas. Dr. Krumwiede has been a member of the faculty at UT Southwestern since 1996, initially in the Biomedical Communications Graduate Program and currently as Acting Chair in the Department of Health Care Sciences.
Dr. Krumwiede joined the Dean’s Office in the School of Health Professions in 2013 as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Educational Technology and was promoted to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in 2015. Her current duties include oversight of activities under the umbrella of academic affairs – from accreditation to educational technology to interprofessional education. She is also Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education for UT Southwestern and works with stakeholders across the campus to centralize and integrate interprofessional activities and efforts across UTSouthwestern schools, the health system, and outside institutions.
As member and past president of the UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT), Dr. Krumwiede was awarded the title Distinguished Teaching Professor by the Provost in recognition of her “excellence as an educator and ability to contribute to excellent education overall at UT Southwestern.” She was inducted into the University of Texas System Kenneth I. Shine, M.D. Academy of Health Science Education in 2018. Dr. Krumwiede is also the recipient of a UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. She has been nationally recognized by the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions and by the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education for efforts and accomplishments in interprofessional education and as a founding board member of the Texas Interprofessional Education Consortium.
Dr. Krumwiede’s past research efforts include patient education for medically underserved populations and research and development of multimedia applications in biomedical environments. Her current research efforts include educational technology and interprofessional education in the health care environment on which she has published and presented at local, state, national, and international conferences.
