Ilan Schwartz, MD PhD FRCPC FECMM
Dr. Ilan Schwartz is a clinician-investigator and Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta. After completing his training in internal medicine and infectious diseases in Canada, Dr Schwartz obtained a Doctorate in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp for his research studying a novel fungal pathogen in Cape Town, South Africa. Thereafter, he did further training in medical mycology at UT Health San Antonio with Dr. Tom Patterson. Dr. Schwartz was recruited to the University of Alberta in 2018, where he practices general and transplant Infectious Diseases. His research program is focused on emerging fungal infections. He is a Fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology, and is a co-author of the ECMM clinical practice guidelines for endemic mycoses and invasive candidiasis. Dr Schwartz is also passionate about non-traditional and digital scholarship, and is active on Twitter as @GermHunterMD
