Biographic Sketch: James M. Wagner, MD, MSc

Dr. Wagner received Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas in 1982 and his MD degree from University of Texas Southwestern in 1986.  He completed postgraduate training in internal medicine at Parkland Hospital and Health Systems, is board certified in internal medicine, and received a Master of Science degree in epidemiology from Harvard University in 1998. 

Joining the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern medical school in 1989, Dr. Wagner has always been heavily involved in undergraduate medical education.  He has served since 1996 as the course director for several, large courses, including the Clinical Medicine course and the UT Southwestern Academic Colleges.  He has won several awards for teaching, including the UT Southwestern Distinguished Clinical Science Educator Award.  He has published in journals of medical education in areas including professional identity formation, learning communities, and simulation.

Dr. Wagner currently serves as a professor of internal medicine and an associate dean for accreditation and educational outcomes.
