Emmanuel Ameh, MBBS, FWACS, FACS

Emmanuel A. Ameh, MBBS, FWACS, FACS is a Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Chief Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at the National Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria. He was formerly Professor of Surgery at the Ahmadu Bello University & Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Nigeria. His research focuses on global surgery and access to children’s surgical care in low resource settings. In this regard, He has published over 200 papers in several peer reviewed journals around the world, edited 3 books and written several book chapters on various aspects of surgical care of children and global surgery. He’s involved in development of educational and training programmes for West African College of Surgeons, Association of Pediatric Surgeons of Nigeria and Pan African Pediatric Surgical Association. He was a Commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and is the current chair for Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery. He led the recently concluded and launched National Surgical, Obstetrics, Anaesthesia and Nursing Planning for Nigeria (NSOANP), which is the very first NSOAP to include children’s surgery and nursing, as a specific component. The NSOANP is now being implemented.
