John Robert Bautista, RN, MPH, PhD
John Robert Bautista is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin under the supervision of Assoc Prof. Yan Zhang, Assoc. Prof. Jacek Gwizdka, and Prof. Eric T. Meyer. His fellowship is funded by the Bullard (2019-2021) and Boyvey (2021-2023) fellowships. He completed his PhD in Communication and Information Science at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (2019) under the supervision of Prof. Yin Leng Theng and Asst. Prof. Sonny Rosenthal. Prior to that, he obtained his BS Nursing (Cum Laude) from Trinity University of Asia (2008) and his Master of Public Health from the University of the Philippines - Manila (2012). He is a Registered Nurse in the Philippines.
In general, Bautista conducts sociotechnical research that examines the role and impact of ICTs, such as smartphones, social media, and blockchain, in healthcare. He approaches this topic by applying and testing communication, information, psychological, and organizational theories based on qualitative and/or quantitative data. His postdoctoral research focuses on the social correction of health misinformation on social media and blockchain in health. He has published research articles in reputable health communication and informatics journals, such as Health Communication, International Journal of Medical Informatics, Journal of Health Communication, and Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. He is an editorial board member of the International Journal of Medical Informatics.
