Claudia A. Chiriboga is Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, and Pediatric MDA Clinical Care Director and member of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Clinical Research Center at Columbia University, New York, NY, USA. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, Dr Chiriboga completed training in pediatrics at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital and in child neurology at the Neurological Institute and Babies Hospital of New York-Presbyterian Medical Center, all in New York. She completed a neuroepidemiology fellowship at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center and received a Master’s in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. She joined the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center in 1991.

Dr Chiriboga’s clinical research experience has included National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded cohort studies of neurodevelopmental disorders as well as clinical trials. Of late, her work has focused on SMA translational research; she has participated in numerous clinical trials in this field, including the ground-breaking, first-in-human SMA antisense oligonucleotide studies. Dr Chiriboga has served on NIH grant review committees, and as associated editor and journal reviewer for pediatric and neuromuscular journals.
