Ziv Gan-Or, MD, PhD
Dr. Ziv Gan-Or has completed his MD and PhD in genetics at Tel-Aviv University, and his post-doctoral fellowship at McGill University. His PhD thesis was focused on the role of the GBA gene in Parkinson disease (PD), a topic which he is still studying. In late 2016, Dr. Gan-Or was appointed as faculty at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University. The Neurogenomics and Precision Medicine (NAO-Med) lab, led by Dr. Gan-Or, is focused on identifying genetics causes and modifiers of various neurological disorders. Using advanced genetic methods such as whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing, targeted next generation sequencing, genome-wide association studies, RNA sequencing and more, we aim to understand the genetic basis of diseases such as PD, REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), restless legs syndrome (RLS), dementia with Lewy-bodies (DLB), multiple system atrophy (MSA), hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) and others. Dr. Gan-Or has recently received the Junior Award from the International Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Society (MDS), and the Chercheurs-boursiers - Junior 1 award from Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS), and the William Dawson Scholar Award for his work on the genetics RBD and PD.
