Thomas Cotter, MD MS
Dr. Thomas Cotter is a native of Ireland where he graduated in Medicine from National University of Ireland, Galway with 1stClass honors, before completing his internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic, Minnesota and his gastroenterology/transplant hepatology fellowships at the University of Chicago Medicine on a T32 NIH training grant. Dr. Cotter also completed a Masterof Science in Public Health Sciences during his time at University of Chicago and served as chief gastroenterology fellow during the 2018-2019 academic year. He is an aspiring academic hepatologist and starts on Faculty at UT Southwestern, Dallas later this year.
Dr. Cotter’s research is primarily outcomes-based, and isfocused on improving the care of patients with alcohol-associated liver disease and of liver transplant recipients. He has already published several first author original researchpublications in high-impact journals including Hepatology, Gut, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Liver Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, andTransplantation. In addition, he has delivered a number of oral presentations at international conferences, including at the AASLD, ACG and DDW annual meetings. He serves on the Clinical Practice Committee of the AASLD, as well as the Education Universe Editorial Board of the ACG.
