Scott Tannenbaum

Scott Tannenbaum is President of The Group for Organizational Effectiveness (gOE), a consulting and research firm he co-founded in 1987. Under his leadership, gOE has supported over 600 organizations globally, including more than 75 Fortune and Global 1000 companies, often in the areas of teamwork, learning, and organizational change.
For the last 30 years, Scott has researched and worked with all types of work teams, including those in traditional settings – such as finance, manufacturing, sales, engineering, senior leadership, and technology. He and his team have also supported many medical and military teams, as well as more “extreme” teams, going up in planes with Smoke Jumpers, out on cruise ships after the Costa Concordia incident, down in coal mines, and out on oil rigs in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Recently he has been studying deep sea saturation dive teams and aerospace crews to help NASA prepare for future space missions. In healthcare, Scott has supported organizations such as Cedars-Sinai, Montefiore, UTSW, and MD Anderson, working with patient care teams and consulting to senior leadership teams up to the CEO level.
As a scholar, Dr. Tannenbaum has over 80 publications including books on knowledge management, HR technologies, and team effectiveness. His latest book, Teams that Work was published by Oxford University Press. His research has been cited over 21,000 times and he has received 6 research and teaching awards. He was named a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychologists (SIOP) and received their Distinguished Professional Contributions Award for lifetime achievements. He was also named a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science.
Formerly an award-winning tenured professor in the business school at the University at Albany in New York, he holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
