William Rayburn, MD, MBA is an emeritus distinguished professor, chair of obstetrics and gynecology, and associate dean at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He recently joined the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina. As a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, he continues to care for underserved women with complicated pregnancies. Dr. Rayburn is the recipient of several teaching awards. His continually-funded research has led to more than 700 peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts presented at national scientific meetings that deal with high risk pregnancy topics, physician workforce issues, and evaluative education trials. Along with serving on several national medical boards, Dr. Rayburn’s leadership positions include being Chairman of the Board, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME); President, Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME); Chair, Academy of Fellows in Continuing Medical Education; and President, Council of University Chairs in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CUCOG). The two most recent of his 19 professional reference books are Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and Health Care: Better Education, Better Patient Care (2018) and The Obstetrician-Gynecologists Workforce in the United States: Facts, Figures, and Implications, 2nd ed. (2017).
