Laurence McCullough, PhD

Dr. Laurence B. McCullough is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Hempstead, New York. He is also Ethics Scholar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, New York. In these capacities he continues his thirty-seven-year collaboration in professional ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology with Frank A. Chervenak, MD, MMM, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Hempstead, New York, and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, New York. They have written three books and published 283 papers in the peer-reviewed literature. With John H. Coverdale, MD, MEd, Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Ethics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, they published Professional Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology on the Cambridge University Press in 2020. Dr. McCullough is also Distinguished Emeritus Professor in the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, from which he retired in 2016, after twenty-eight years on Baylor's Faculty. He recently published A Historical Dictionary of Medical Ethics (Scarecrow Press of Roman & Littlefied, 2018). He is currently completing a book on Thomas Percival's (1740-1804) professional ethics in medicine and an edited volume of Percival's writings for the Philosophy and Medicine book series published by Springer. He lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife of forty-three years and historical of Mexican Americans in Texas.
