Shirling Tsai, MD
Shirling Tsai, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Tsai completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard College, graduating summa cum laude in Chemistry and Physics. She earned her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed a residency in General Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she also completed a research fellowship in Vascular Biology. She received advanced training in vascular and endovascular surgery through a fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Tsai is board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery. She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012. Dr. Tsai also serves as the Chief of the Section of Vascular Surgery at the Dallas VA Medical Center.
Dr. Tsai conducts research on the role of lipoprotein receptors in the development of aortic aneurysms and atherosclerosis. Her research has been funded by the American Surgical Association, the VA North Texas Health Care Systems New Investigator Program, and the Society for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Tsai is a member of the Dallas VA Institutional Review Board (IRB). She also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Annals of Vascular Surgery, and she is a member of the editorial board for Nature Scientific Reports.
Dr. Tsai is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Association for Academic Surgery, the American Heart Association, and the Association of VA Surgeons.
