Nirupama De Silva, Professor
Bio-Nirupama DeSilva MD (nickname: Rupa)
Dr. Rupa DeSilva went to medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and did her OB/GYN residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She then went on to do a fellowship in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor University in Houston, Texas.
After many years of working at the University of Oklahoma, and running an active pediatric and adolescent gynecology practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she has recently moved back to Dallas, Texas to work at UT Southwestern in the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. At UT, Dr. DeSilva is a Clinical Professor, and she is also board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has received recognition from “America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists” for the last 5 years.
Dr. DeSilva has been active in education within the pediatric and adolescent gynecology community over the years. Dr. DeSilva has received multiple grants to create websites to help teenage girls decrease risk-taking behaviors. Located at www.girlsmarts.org, this site is geared towards helping adolescent girls decrease risk-taking behaviors through awareness and knowledge. Her additional goals include helping guardians have the knowledge to speak with their teens about their own family values/expected behaviors, while also promoting awareness of various birth control options for those who are need of them. She is also one of the original authors, and now the editor of pagwebed.org, a site that is now part of the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology's educational armamentarium and meant to educate resident physicians within Pediatrics and OBGYN on the intricacies of pediatric and adolescent gynecology.
