Yulia PILLER, PhD Learning Technologies
Dr. Piller has 19 years of professional experience, 15 of which she spent working with students and faculty in various K-12 and Higher Education institutions. Dr. Piller started her career in education teaching middle school technology applications and multimedia courses. When she left the classroom she continued working with faculty and administration on instructional methodology and technology integration, teacher professional development and STEM driven curriculum design. Dr. Piller have had a privilege to design and develop health-related online compliance courses for all K-12 educators, administrators and other school personnel on behalf of Texas Education Agency (TEA). In the past several years she has trained professional development consultants on instructional design theories, on-line course development and processes used in developing appropriate, clear, concise, accurate and engaging online and blended courses. In addition, she served as a technology integration consultant on behalf of National Education Foundation as well taught junior-senior level courses on technology integration at one of the Texas public universities. As a researcher with extensive practical experience in faculty professional development, instructional methodologies and technology integration she presented at national and international conferences, developed technology curriculum for one of the largest school districts in DFW area as well as served as a STEM and technology integration consultant to several public and private schools around the metroplex.
Dr. Piller joined UT Southwestern Academic Information Systems department in March of 2017 as IR Manager of Educational Technology. In February 2018 Dr. Piller became a faculty member at the UTSW School of Health Professions, department of Healthcare Sciences Education and Research. Since January 2020, Dr. Piller is the Director of Educational Technology at UT Southwestern. Her current aim is not only to help faculty and students to teach and learn better with technology but also contribute to the emergent research on educational technology in the field of healthcare sciences. Dr. Piller’s research interests are: gamification of rehabilitation, educational technology, student-designed multimedia and its effect on learning, innovation in the classroom and game based learning.
