BENJAMIN STEPHENS RICHARDS, M.D.
Steve Richards received his BS from the University of Utah and his MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He returned to University of Utah for his orthopaedic surgery residency. He completed a one-year fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics and scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in 1987, and remained there to join the orthopaedic staff. He practiced at SRC throughout his career, and retired in June 2021.
Dr. Richards was Assistant Chief of Staff from 1997 until he was appointed Chief Medical Officer in 2012. He was a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Center at Dallas. He served in many leadership positions in national and international professional societies, including President of the Pediatric Society of North America and President of the Scoliosis Research Society.
He authored 111 peer-reviewed journal articles and contributed numerous book chapters to textbooks such as “Orthopaedic Knowledge Update: Pediatrics”, “The Textbook of Spinal Surgery”, “The Pediatric Spine”, and “Tachdjian's Pediatric Orthopaedics, from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 3rd,4th 5thand 6th editions”.
Dr. Richards is an internationally recognized expert in pediatric orthopedics and throughout his career was a frequent visiting professor and lecturer on pediatric orthopaedics and scoliosis.
