Dr. Joao Amaral is a Professor of Radiology at the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto and a Pediatric Interventional Radiologist at The Hospital for Sick children.
Dr. Joao Amaral received his medical degree from the Federal University of Parana, Brazil (1996) and did his training in Radiology at the Hospital de Clinicas – Federal University of Parana, Brazil (2000). Following his clinical training as a radiologist, he continued his training as a Clinical fellow in Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Interventional Radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children, Canada (2005). He joined the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Hospital for Sick Children in 2006. He is currently the Division Head of Interventional Radiology at the Image Guided Therapy Centre, the Co-director of the Centre for Image Guided Care at the Hospital for Sick Children, and the Women's Auxiliary of The Hospital for Sick Children Chair in Image Guided Care. His main focus is developing and providing minimally invasive image guided therapies for children. His areas of interest include Pediatric Renovascular disease, Genito-Urinary Interventions, Vascular Anomalies, Lymphatic interventions, and Interventional MR procedures.
