Blake Barker, MD

Blake Barker, MD, FACP is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Student Affairs at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is a native Texan and graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University where he also worked an additional year as a teaching hospitalist.
Blake joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 2011 as an outpatient general internist. In addition to his primary care practice, he has regularly served an attending physician on the inpatient teaching services at both Parkland Memorial Hospital and Clements University Hospital. He also supervised residency continuity clinic at Parkland weekly for over five years.
Since joining UT Southwestern, he has had the fortune to grow his passion for medical education through various teaching opportunities in both undergraduate and graduate medical education as well as faculty development programs. He has served at Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship from 2014-2016 and more recently as Associate Dean for Student Affairs. He has received several teaching awards including selection as a Graduation Marshal (2016, 2017 & 2019) by the fourth year medical student class and the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award (2017) by the Southwestern Academy of Teachers. His current focus in Student Affairs is in improving career development programs, including co-directing a new required MS1 and MS2 course, “Strive: Personal and Professional Development for Careers in Medicine”.
