Nubia Lluberes Rincon
Dr. Lluberes studied medicine in the Dominican Republic. She migrated to the U.S. in pursue of Psychiatry residency training. She is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist trained in General Psychiatry at University of Texas in Houston and specialized in Community Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatry Institute and Clinic.
For the last six years, Dr. Lluberes has been in leadership positions within the Texas correctional system: She served as Director for Mental Health at the Harris County Jail and Director of the Competency restoration at the Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC). More recently, Dr. Lluberes held the Clinical Director position at the Wayne Scott unit. She is passionate about providing care for the most vulnerable patients, the incarcerated mentally ill. Dr. Lluberes is Certified mental health provider by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
She is a Clinical assistant professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch and enjoys teaching medical student students about the nuances of the Criminal Justice System.
In 2016, Dr. Lluberes received the American Psychiatric Association (APA) award “For the Advancement of Minority Mental Health” for raising awareness in underserved minority communities about mental illness. She is a fellow member of the APA and has served as chairperson for the APA Foundation Diversity Fellowship since 2018. She is also a member of the APA Council of Minority Mental Health.
Dr. Lluberes collaborated in the production of the Documentary Madly Gifted (2011) by artist Gigi Polo. She has publications on the topics of Advocacy, use of technology in psychiatry, sex trafficking, and the Criminal Justice System. Dr. Lluberes has been invited to present lectures locally at MD Anderson, nationally in various professional association meetings and internationally at the Latin American Psychiatry Association annual meeting.
She enjoys growing bonsai trees, dancing merengue, reading, watching and playing hockey, and spending time with her family..
