Sarah Rebstock, MS, MD, PhD, FAAP
Dr. Rebstock is an adult and pediatric anesthesiologist with experience in pediatric acute and chronic pain management. She holds advanced degrees from the University of Florida, and the college of medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet in Mainz, Germany. Her residency and fellowships were through the Penn State University. During her medical training, she was a pharmaceutical researcher at the Hoechst Chemical Company in Frankfurt, Germany.
She holds the title of Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at University of Texas Southwestern and works clinically as an anesthesiologist and chronic pain specialist for children. Her research expertise lies in lab research, human subject research, and innovation. She completed a human research study with Folic Acid in pregnant in 1994 to help re-establish the RDA for folic acid in pregnant women at the NIH Clinical Research Center at the University of Florida in Gainesville in the 90s, as well as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit study at Penn State Children’s Hospital in the 2000s. Dr. Rebstock has also been working in lab research with morphine gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in knock-out mice and viral infection and is currently looking at the role of the methyl folate trap in sevoflurane and the developing brain.
Since coming to UTSW in Dallas, she has been working with developing immersion technologies and therapeutic gaming for pain rehabilitation. Her expertise is in multisensory immersion techniques, and long-term potentiation (LTP) to affect neuroplastic change in the CNS. She has most recently been updating her “MARS” (Monitored Augmented Reality System) therapeutic game for use in physical therapy and rehabilitative medicine to develop remote therapy and monitoring platforms that can be used as a telemedicine extension.
