Jennifer Jefferson, Licensed Professional Counselor

Jennifer Jefferson earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce and has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2012. She plans to expand her credentials to include a supervisor license supplement (LPC-S) so that she can mentor and guide newly Licensed Professional Counselor-Associates . She began her work for the Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN), as a Behavioral Health Clinician at Children’s Health in January 2021.
CPAN is part of the larger mental health initiative, Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC) created by the 2019 Texas Legislature. Children’s Health is one of 12 collaborative Texas academic hubs that provide telephonic-based mental health consultation, referrals and training for pediatricians and family physicians.
Jennifer’s role at CPAN is fielding calls from pediatric and family medicine primary care providers who have patients with mental health concerns. Through telephonic consultation, Jennifer works with providers to triage and form a plan for pediatric patients which can include non-pharmacological interventions, referral to specialized or emergency care, or escalation to child and adolescent psychiatrist for medication management. Additionally, Jennifer is a presenter and moderator for the CPAN CME series, which offers targeted behavioral health CME credits free of charge to pediatric health care providers across the state.
Prior to joining Children’s Health, Jennifer worked with students in Mesquite ISD for 13 years. For 4 years, she provided crisis intervention and counseling to adults through LifePath Systems, the designated behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disabilities authority for Collin County residents.
In addition to her work with CPAN, Jennifer maintains a small private telehealth practice for adult patients, Spectrum Counseling, PLLC in Dallas. Crisis resolution and the care of LGBTQ+ and Gender Diverse clients are her specialized area of focus
Jennifer believes in advocating for access to mental health care for all children and families, as well as teaching mental health and wellness to other health care professionals
