I am a board certified vascular and endovascular surgeon and have been since 2004.
My career began with medical school at the LSU school of Medicine between 1992-1996 in New Orleans, LA. I became interested in Surgery immediately after being on general and trauma surgery and Cardiac surgery.
Upon graduation, I was selected as a categorical resident at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC as a categorical resident in General surgery.
This academic program was stimulating an challenged me to desire advancement and to do special things. I was motived to pursue a research fellowship and was chosen to be a Surgical Research fellow at Harvard Medical school from 1998 -2000. I was well mentored and has a fabulous experience training in classical scientific method and research philosophy. I studied lymphocyte trafficking in the Microcirculation in both in vivo and ex-vivo experimental models.
After, this time was completed, I transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I completed my Chief Residency in General Surgery in 2003. I met my wife Jane in 2001 and married during my time at UAB.
From to 2003-2004, I pursued a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This was a incredible program that taught me so much about the field of Vascular Surgery and this training I will never forget or be able to duplicate again.
My first faculty position was at the LSU school of Medicine in Shreveport, LA. I was Assistant Professor there from 2004-2009. I was a Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery at LSU from 2006-2009 and was involved in many research both basic science and clinical focused on Aortic disease. During this time, my wife and I had two twin boys born in 2007; John and Warren West.
I moved to be Senior Staff Surgeon at Henry Ford Medical group in Detroit,MI from 2009-2011 where I maintained a busy clinical and academic practice and performed primarily as an Aortic Surgeon for the Division of Vascular surgery. My clinical research involved aortic disease and aortic geometry and physiology. Medical student education was a major component of my academic pursuit as well as vascular fellowship training.
I was appointed Associate professor of surgery at the Wayne state University School of Medicine while in Michigan.
I moved back to Texas in 2011 and was promoted to Associate professor of Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. I continued on as a busy clinical and academic surgeon for 7 years at the Texas Heart Institute and appointed to professional staff of the Texas Heart Institute by Denton Cooley in 2015.
In 2017, I moved to Fort Worth, TX to build an Vascular Program at Harris Methodist hospital and continue to function as a tertiary referral vascular surgery with broad interest in complex open vascular surgery.
