kathryn dao, MD, FACP, FACR
Kathryn Dao, MD, FACP, FACR, received her medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in 1999 and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Washington University-Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, MO where she authored and co-edited the Washington Manual Subspecialty Consult Series in Rheumatology. In 2002, she returned to Dallas for a rheumatology fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. During her fellowship, Dr. Dao’s research focused on lupus gene expression profiles using micro-array analysis. After completing her fellowship training, she joined Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas practicing rheumatology and conducting clinical research trials. She later served as the Associate Chief of Rheumatology for Texas Health Presbyterian, Dallas from 2008-2010. She accepted the position Associate Director of Clinical Rheumatology at Baylor Research Institute in Dallas from 2010 to 2019. She joined UT Southwestern faculty as an Associate Professor in the Division of Rheumatic diseases in 2019. She had been the rheumatology section editor for Medstudy Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Board Review Courses for 6 years. She has been voted as one of D-magazine Best Doctors by her peers from 2007-present. She has lectured, produced videos, and authored blogs, articles, book chapters on different topics in rheumatology; she is active on social media and has studied the use of social media in academic medicine. Her areas of interest include systemic lupus erythematosus, reproductive health in rheumatic diseases, immune checkpoint inhibitor associated immune related adverse effects, and social media in academic medicine.
