Dr. Melanie L. Hafford is a highly skilled bariatric surgeon, respected educator, and dynamic community leader, recognized for her expertise in advanced surgical techniques and her passion for patient-centered care. Specializing in robotic bariatric and anti-reflux surgery, as well as minimally invasive general surgery, Dr. Hafford has made significant contributions to improving outcomes for patients undergoing weight-loss and digestive surgeries.
A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Hafford completed her surgical residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she developed a solid foundation in general surgery. She further advanced her expertise through a bariatric surgery fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. Her commitment to surgical excellence was further honed with the Karl Storz IRCAD Fellowship Award, which allowed her to study advanced endoscopic techniques in Strasbourg, France.
Dr. Hafford is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). She is also a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.
As the Bariatric Surgical Director of the Texas Health Frisco Bariatric Program since its inception, Dr. Hafford has played a pivotal role in establishing one of the region’s leading centers for bariatric care. She is also President-Elect of the Texas Health Resources Frisco Medical Staff and the President of the DFW National Medical Association (C.V. Roman Medical Society), where she champions health equity and the advancement of minority representation in medicine.
Dr. Hafford’s exceptional work has earned her recognition in D Magazine’s Best Doctors annually since 2021, and in 2022 and 2023, she was named a D Magazine Women of Influence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
With her unmatched combination of surgical expertise, academic leadership, and community advocacy, Dr. Melanie L. Hafford stands as a trailblazer in the field of bariatric surgery, inspiring future healthcare professionals and empowering her patients toward better health.
