Philip Osehobo, Dr E. Philip Osehobo, MD, PhD, FACP, VPMA/CMO
With more than 10 years of healthcare leadership experience, in various positions and offices, Dr Philip Osehobo, currently serves as Vice-President Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Wellstar, Atlanta, Georgia. Dr Osehobo has earned the respect of his peers, patients and team members for being a passionate physician that places high quality care and patient safety above everything else.
Dr Osehobo has been integral in leading change in Wellstar Spalding Hospital through his many leadership positions. In the last couple of years, with support of ANPA leadership, Dr Osehobo has launched an innovative virtual, real time platform for primary care, Tele-medicine, in Oredo, Nigeria. His physician executive roles have included Medical Director of Informatics, Physician Advisor, Chief of Medical Staff, Electronic Medical Records Physician Champion, Chairman of departments and committees including, Medicine, Quality Review, Process Improvement etc. In addition to his healthcare executive leadership roles, Dr Osehobo maintains a primary care/internal medicine practice. The time he volunteers with community organizations is a testament to his passion for improving the health of the community.
Dr Osehobo has been a member of ANPA (Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas) for more than 20 years, has also served as state chapter Chair, as well as, committee assignments. He is also a member of the American College of Physicians for more than 20 years.
His engagement in and with ANPA include Advocacy Committee and Medical Missions. In 2022, Dr Osehobo championed the use of Tele-medicine, real time video consultation for medical missions, and also continuity of care post medical missions, and management of chronic medical conditions. This work was accepted as a scientific presentation at the annual ACP conference, in Savannah, Georgia. This was the first time, that, ANPA activities including medical missions, has been presented at a peer scientific conference. This Telemedicine project has been successfully piloted in rural Nigeria, as a tool for providing, primary care, and also management of chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Dr Osehobo was recognized for this pioneering work by the American College of Physicians with "2022 Community and Volunteerism Award".
Dr Osehobo is board certified in Internal Medicine, by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a fellow of American College of Physicians. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Anatomy and Cell Biology from Queen's University, Ontario, Canada. He completed his internal medicine residency at Woodhull Medical and Mental health center, Brooklyn, New York. He is fully a practicing physician in Georgia, and also providing Tele-medicine services on medical mission platform, in Nigeria.
