Louis Kim, Louis Kim, MD, MBA, FAANS

Louis J. Kim, MD, MBA is the Wallace T. Staaz Endowed Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Neurological Surgery at University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. He is chief of neurosurgery at Harborview Medical Center, which serves as the only Level-1 Trauma center and main quaternary referral center for a five-state region including Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. He specializes in the endovascular and microsurgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, cavernous malformations, AV fistulae, and stroke. His research interests include the effects of treatment on the computation fluid dynamics of aneurysms and the role of genetic, epigenetic, and hemodynamic forces on the pathogenesis of aneurysms and AVMs. Toward that goal, he is co-founder and executive director of the Center for Stroke and Applied NeuroScience (www.sanscenter.org) at the University of Washington, where he oversees the multidisciplinary efforts of over 40 principal investigators, research scientists, and trainees dedicated to finding cures for all causes of stroke. He completed his executive MBA in 2020 and is currently Medical Director of Clinical Value Redesign at UW Medicine.
