Yuanyuan Zhang, MD. PhD
Yuanyuan Faith Zhang, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Zhang specializes in utilizing radiotherapy to treat patients with lung cancer. In addition to patient care, she is actively researching innovative approaches to enhance the efficacy and decrease the toxicities of radiotherapy in lung cancer treatment. Dr. Zhang completed her M.D./Ph.D. at UT Southwestern in the laboratory of Nobel Laureates Drs. Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein. After completing an internship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Zhang completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at UTSW, where she conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. Ralph DeBerardinis supported by the ABR Holman Research Pathway, a program dedicated to training physician-scientists within the field of radiology and radiation oncology. Her lab researches on metabolic regulation of radiation response in lung cancer with a goal to develop metabolic radiosensitizers to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy. She leads multiple clinical trials combining immune checkpoint inhibitors and novel systemic agents with intrathoracic radiation which she parallels her investigation using murine models in the laboratory. Dr. Zhang has received several awards for her scientific contribution including the 2015 Ida M Green Award, Radiation Oncology Early Career Developmental Award in 2020, ASCO Young Investigator Award and Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award in 2021, Distinguished Research Award from the President's Research Council and Lung SPORE career enhancement award in 2022.
