Madhukar Patel, MD, MBA, ScM
Madhukar S. Patel, M.D., MBA, Sc.M., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center who specializes in the treatment of patients with end-stage liver and kidney disease, as well as those with benign and malignant diseases of the liver and bile ducts. His clinical practice focuses on liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and kidney transplantation.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He completed a residency in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a fellowship in abdominal transplant and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at the University of Toronto. He also holds a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Brown University and a master’s degree in business administration from UCI.
In addition to clinical care, Dr. Patel is actively involved in research focused on developing strategies to improve the number and quality of organs available for transplant, as well as to develop pathways to optimize clinical outcomes after liver transplantation.
