Namasivayam Ambalavanan, MD
Dr. Ambalavanan “Ambal” is Professor of Pediatrics (tenured) and Director of the Division of Neonatology and the Division of Neonatal Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He completed medical school and a pediatric residency in India, and then completed a pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship at the UAB. He is the Founder and Director of the Translational Research in Normal and Disordered Development (TReNDD) Program at UAB. He leads a basic science laboratory focused on lung development and lung injury, and directs clinical and translational studies within multiple multicenter clinical networks, including the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, the PreVent/PostVent network, and the HEAL program. He has over 400 publications to date and has mentored dozens of junior faculty and fellows.
